Game Design Document

This week we had to create a Game Design Document which is a live document which is pivotal in giving the next stage of the project direction. Unlike what seems to be the majority of my peers, I decided to use Google Slides to create my GDD because I just personally like how easy it is to rearrange my information in it.  To create my document I followed a template provided here titled "Calling All Cars Game Design Document". It was relatively easy to follow and I omitted and added sections as needed. I tried to make the document as comprehensive as possible for now but I will be updating it throughout the process of my game.

  1. Hey Vince, intersting idea to host a car game in a scientific testing facility . I like it. The launch pads and speed boosts remind me of Asphalt 8. I think they will be a cool additon to they game and add diversity from the other car games I’ve read so far. I’ve got a few parts that I’m curious about the game.

Is the player able to switch between the 3 cars at different stages of the game? Or is it set by level
I understand the idea behind the stage hazards but how will they work? Will the player be pushed back a few meters from their original position?
What do the coins collectables do? Is there a specific number needed to win a level? It might be more rewarding for the player if they unlock a feature in the game like the option of changing car color.
A timer is mentioned that will be visible on the UI. What type of timer is it? Does it only track how long it takes for the player to complete a level or is there a countdown for the player to complete each stage of the game?
Hope I didn’t bombard you with too many questions. Wish you luck on your game!

  2. Hi Vince, I enjoyed reading your game design document and I especially liked that in the game you will give the players an option to choose which car they want to play with, each car having their own weakness and strength is a great idea. I also like the large variety of obstacles, collectables and objects you are planning to add into the game, the idea of adding interactable objects in some levels is very good as it allows the player to interact with the game more than just basic gameplay.

  3. Hey Vince I love the idea of your game. Your GDD was laid out really nice and provided a lot of information that really helped me to visualise your idea. I like how the player is also able to interact with the game swell as play it. Best of luck with the rest of the game making process. Looking forward to seeing the final product!
